Casting Calls Can Be Used To Sharpen Your Skills

Learning to audition properly is no different than acting or any other type of performing. The only difference, is that the audition is more heightened, condensed and concentrated. A total awareness is brought into the audition, that often leads to creating tension.

If you are fortunate enough to be invited to a casting call, you should expect to bring all that you have learned, when you present yourself to the casting director. All the exposure to plays, acting classes, countless rehearsals and audiences now appear real. In the audition, you will be required to package all that you have into a few brief minutes, in order to give the director a picture of the kind of actor that you will be to work with, and how suitable you are for the role in the show. The best advice that you can get to excel in auditions is to keep learning and training. Learning to audition well is not something that you do once, audition skills must be upgraded constantly. Even seasoned and veteran actors continue to study and grow in order to keep polishing their skills. Veteran musicians, practice daily, so you should take the opportunity to attend as many casting calls as possible.

The journey is lifelong. Remember that you are competing with hundreds of other aspiring performers in your market, some who may already be making money in the business. The more training you have, the better will be your confidence, and the better will be the quality of your work.

There is very little or virtually no on-the job training for actors, but in order to progress, you will need to accept the fact that there are many different types of auditions you will face to keep working in the industry, and,you may need specialized training for each one. A typical actor may earn income from several sources, such as commercials, plays, musicals, live and on-camera shows, voice-overs and sitcoms or soaps. Each of these require a specific set of audition skills that may not be yet taught in professional workshops. It then becomes essential to attend as many of the various casting calls as you can, as they can be used as your training ground.

Success as a performer requires much commitment and dedication and, although you may be invited to casting calls, remember not to take rejection personally. Although you may have given your best, it may seem that you are still lacking and others may be better than you are. That may not necessarily be the case. The best way to handle rejection is to concede that the winning person is portraying the quality desired in this particular instance.
